Gorman Motorsports supported the San Diego BMW CCA chapter at Buttonwillow Raceway last weekend to teach our class; “Data Acquisition using Traqmate and Traqview”. It was an exciting event with an unprecedented 29 drivers collecting data over the course of the weekend. With Traqmate Basics being used in each car, students had real world data to compare against instructors and other students for driver improvement.Students were given a basic introduction to the Traqmate software including an overview on layout, friction circle, braking and turn zones and segment analysis. Upon going out on track students discussed with their instructors on their session plan and then attempted to execute on it. Coming off track, Gorman Motorsports downloaded and analyzed the data with the students and instructors to determine areas of improvement. Students subsequently updated their session plan and worked on specific areas of improvement with instructor feedback on track. Upon executing on these plans and learning about data analysis students were given a whole new ability to quantify and qualify their driving ability.
